Bastion - Consequences Reviews
Posted on 2009-25-06 by Toby Chelms

The reviews have come flooding in for Bastion’s debut album ‘Consequences’ so have a read, be convinced then go and buy!

Mild Peril Zine
As soon as the first ring out of the first song Beasts rings out, I have a slight inkling that I’m gonna like this album, then it kicks off into this fucking intense upbeat melodic punk rock and I think I’m gonna REALLY like this album. The next track Big Yellow, is of a slower tempo, more of a mid-tempo gruffy variety, some fantastic backing vocals really make this sound HUGE! A kinda mixture of Swinging Utters and The Bouncing Souls. The album carries on from that point I’m glad to say, very catchy, sometimes fast, sometimes very fast, never too slow though! I won’t bother picking out my favourite songs, you should buy the album (£5.50 inc P&P) and choose your own! Anyway, these dudes are from Brighton and this is their debut album, apparently they are geeks; ones an electrical engineer, ones a science technician and two are comic book writers. Thank you loads Home Of The Brave for sending this my way, a proper great album which Bastion must be chuffed to fuck to have released, certainly going on my list of UK bands I like.

Issue Punk Zine
BASTION are a bloody fantastic punk band from Brighton, who have gigged extensively, put out a couple of decent demo’s and now a knock out album. Delivered for the most part at breath-taking speed it is the perfect blend of old-school, melodic hardcore and even a dash of pop punk to complete the picture. There are a whole stack of fast, catchy, punchy punk tracks on the gem of a CD. All the songs are great, although track 9 (EDIT No Way! Jose!) is my fave and that’s down to some of the lyrics. But it’s all just so god-damned punky that it doesn’t really matter cos they are all winners.

‘Lights Go Out’ Zine
Being from up north means that I’m not very up on southern bands so I’ve not heard this band before. Bastion are a punk band from Brighton. From what I gather (that’s right Mr T, I do my research!), they’ve had a couple of demos and a couple of songs out on compilations but this is their first full length album. They’re one of those bands who play their songs as fast as physically possible, which could be good or bad really. These guys seem to pull it off though and the album is packed with fast, sing-along songs, which wouldn’t be out of place in an underground bar packed with kids who have snuck out from their parents’ houses on a school night just to shout the songs.

‘Lights Go Out’ Zine (2)
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we’ve found our album of 2009! Seriously this is that f+cking good, I think you should all go and order your copy without delay, maybe instead of reading the rest of this review. But for those of you who haven’t taken my advice then I guess I’d better tell you a little more about Consequences by Bastion. Hailing from Brighton this 4 piece play a very UK sounding gruff punk rock with some hardcore and some street values, but with a foot definitely in the rock and roll camp of punk. The songs are pacey and powerful, the vocals brash and fast. The backing vocals are excellent too and it event has some great sing a long opportunities. The power of this album really does hit you full on smack in the face. It’s hard to pick out some tracks of note but I’ll drop a mention to “Trust Me!”, “Doooooomed”, “One For The Road”, “Detectives” and “I Don’t Like Your Face, Pal!” but it is hard from the 14 on offer. Not a duff tune on here. So if you’ve read the whole thing, nice one and now get yourself ordering this album, it’s gonna be stuck on my player for quite a while!
